project description

this street disco with a communicating indoor and outdoor space, during the day and night, becoming an extension of the urban fabric in which it is located

jive is an all-day bar and hangout place engaging with the vibrant street of gemmayzeh. It is a re-interpretation of the street disco, inspired by the seventies culture.

this collaboration with designer and co-owner, jihane fares, allowed for a design that is in complete synchrony with the jive identity, in every detail.

the spot interacts the street through a facade that opens up entirely to communicate with the sidewalk through the indoor/outdoor bench.

the space is versatile and offers flexibility for a variety of events.the interior is characterized by a low bar that allows for a great communication within the space.

the bar also hosts the vinyl station and a researched vinyl library, giving the space a unique, personal identity.

the bar is placed at the heart of the space, creating a continuous meeting point. the mezzanine acts as a light box that enhances the atmosphere. the iconic, tiled bench frames the space increasing porosity and opportunities for encounters.

the street corner creates a more private zone that is a tribute to the Jive identity, becoming a sort of living room ambience. the kitchen on the opposite side communicates with the space through a light facade that favors operation and fluidity.

throughout the space, light and color balance showcase different materials and settings to create a unique experience during and in the absence of daylight. the contrast in colors also highlights the bar area while using the double height to achieve equilibrium within the space.

light, textured walls and ceiling offer a canvas for lighting elements that accentuate movement and details around the space.

the intention was to create a bold interior that still offers a cozy feel for urban dwellers.

the interior is tied together using neon lights and a personal, vintage collection that makes Jive vibrant and intimate.
