project description

a museum and workspace for culture, art, and education

the three entities forming what is known as “la grande brera” are l’accademia di brera, the botanical garden, and palazzo citterio. a preliminary study of exhibition typologies conducted to the idea of using three contradictory types, combined to create a reversed experience where the first approach is misguiding

the project aims to stitch the fragmented fabric and create an experience that brings the three bodies together without losing their distinct character, challenging the limit between the academic career & production and the exhibition of accomplished artists. the idea of work in progress and the contemporary art movement is displayed on one platform and under the same light, sometimes intertwining  and disrupting each other

the traces of the monumental architecture of the accademia as well as the revisited architecture of palazzo citterio are woven together in plan and volume by a new annex that works as a plug-in creating a never-ending circulation that makes living the spaces tangible. the notion of being lost or reserved spaces is pushed to the limit diversifying experiences and forcing different dwellers to interact. the new addition is plastic, provocative, and not understated

the variety of spaces in the new museum is designed to adapt to different artworks and their spatial requisites. the construction of works is capable of creating a wealth of new bearings for the inquisitive gaze. the exhibition is a collection of artistic manifestations that deal with the notion of spatiality, temporality, and composition all while experimenting with diverse artistic media and disciplines

artwork establishes different relationships between interior and exterior space. works precisely allude to the architectural and institutional framing of the specific exhibition environment, possessing the conceptual mutability and adaptability that each artist consciously exploits
